This is the second in our series of events. The first event feature local bootstrapping hero' Lumenera who bootstrapped with $0 in external funding to win numerous awards and eventually successful acquisition. Up this month is an anomoly in the start-up eco-system Rob Lane CEO and Tyler Cope CTO of Overlay.tv who have successfully achieved both a Series A and B round of funding. What secrets and lessons learned will the founders have?

The Buddy System is a new event at The Code Factory and like most of TheCodeFactory events, The Buddy System will be light weight, informal, fun and friendly with the intent of helping those just starting out. The belief is that entrepreneurs who have 'done it' successfully or those currently 'doing it' are the best to teach those just starting out. The buddy system is the start-up founders sharing their thoughts, perspective and lessons learned on getting going in a start-up company.

The Buddy System is being held in partnership with Fraser Milner Casgrain will be held on November 25th and will occur on a monthly basis thereafter. Each session will feature founders of successful, local start-ups.   This month's featured speakers are from Overlay. TV:

 ABOUT THE FOUNDERS:

Rob Lane, Co-Founder-Chief Executive Officer

In 2007, Rob co-founded Overlay.TV to turn the vision of making online video interactive and clickable. Today the company has a full video content management platform that enables this interactivity.

Prior to Overlay.TV, Rob was VP Sales and Marketing for Tropic Networks selling IPTV and Cable video on demand solutions. The company was acquired by Alcatel-Lucent.  Before getting into the startup world, Rob ran divisions of multi-national companies both in the US and UK. Rob holds undergrad qualifications in Electronics and Marketing and an MBA from Cranfield University in the UK.

Tyler Cope, Co-Founder- Chied Technology Officer

As CTO, Tyler is responsible for the technical vision and direction of Overlay.TV, but is just as visionary when it comes to the creative aspects as well. Tyler, whose wife was responsible for planting the original seed for Overlay.TV, is always thinking about how to improve existing technologies and make them more user-friendly.

A programmer at heart, prior to Overlay.TV, Tyler was a founding partner at CleanCode and the Chief Portal Architect for Vignette. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Carleton University.

His dream is to one day live in a caboose in the desert, and pursue his other passion, art.
